Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about FactorySpecs, factory options, and vehicle checks.

How do I check what factory options are fitted to a car?

Enter the UK registration or VIN into FactorySpecs. The system decodes the VIN to identify every factory-fitted option — not model-level guesswork, but the actual extras fitted to that specific vehicle at the factory.

What does a FactorySpecs lookup include?

Each lookup returns factory-fitted options with estimated retail values, full MOT history with advisory intelligence, mileage integrity scoring and anomaly detection, live valuations (auction, trade, private), keeper history, and an AI-powered buying assessment that reads the full picture.

Is the MOT and tax check really free?

Yes. We pull data from the DVLA and DVSA free of charge. You can check any car's MOT status, tax status, expiry dates, make, colour, fuel type, and engine size without creating an account or paying anything. The free check also includes full MOT history with advisories.

What do I get with a paid report that I don't get for free?

The paid report adds factory-fitted options with original prices (decoded from the VIN), live market valuations (auction, trade, private, retail), performance data (BHP, torque, 0-60), a vehicle stock photo, EuroNCAP safety rating, and the full HPI layer including finance checks, stolen vehicle checks, write-off status, and mileage anomaly detection.

Which car brands does FactorySpecs support?

We currently decode factory options for 39 brands including BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Volvo, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Mini, Peugeot, Renault, Skoda, SEAT, Vauxhall, and many more. Coverage is expanding continuously.

Does it work for electric vehicles and hybrids?

Yes. FactorySpecs includes EV-specific data: battery capacity, charging specifications, WLTP range, and warranty status. It was built by EV owners and is particularly strong on electric and hybrid vehicles including Jaguar I-PACE, BMW i-series, Tesla, and more.

How is this different from an HPI or MOT check?

Standard checks tell you if a car is stolen or written off. FactorySpecs tells you what was actually fitted at the factory — the options, packs, and extras that affect value and desirability. It also includes mileage anomaly detection and an AI verdict that reads the full history.

Why can't you check Toyota or Nissan factory specs?

Toyota and Nissan do not share their factory build data with any third-party provider — not us, not our competitors, not even most dealers. This is an industry-wide gap. If you check a Toyota or Nissan, you'll still get the full MOT history, valuations, and vehicle identity data.

What about older cars (pre-2010)?

Factory spec data is most comprehensive for cars from 2010 onwards. Older vehicles may have limited or no factory option data available. The free MOT/tax check, valuations, and vehicle history report work for all ages.

How much does it cost?

The basic MOT and tax check is free. Full reports with factory options, valuations, and vehicle history start at £6.95. We offer single reports and multi-packs at a discount.
